President Trump Welcomes Relatives of Attacked Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The president stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Public Reaction
Mourners assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to aid policing efforts in DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always ready to support those in need.”
Service arrangements for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Government Revisions
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the administration to halt refugee claims and cease issuing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Morrisey said on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on the program that she planned to visit the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor told the audience at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
